JAY Z PRESENTS D’USSÉ™ Cognac

D’USSÉ™ Cognac is masterfully crafted at the prestigious Château de Cognac, one of the oldest cognac houses in France. It has a 200-year legacy in blending some of the world’s finest spirits. The Château’s proximity to the River Charente results in two climates within its walls: a humid cellar that results in fruity, floral notes, and a dry cellar that brings out the woody, spicy flavors of the cognac. Blending the two eaux-de-vie results in the boldness of character in D'USSÉ Cognac.

Cellar Master Michel Casavecchia is a man of vision and determination. For more than 20 years, this artist has been curating some of the world’s finest cognacs at the legendary Château de Cognac. His vision was to create a distinctively bold, yet remarkably smooth Cognac. The result is D’USSÉ™ Cognac.

BROWN SUGAR AND ROASTED PINEAPPLE MOSCOW MULE

Roasted Pineapple:

1 whole pineapple

1/4 cup brown sugar (use more if necessary)

Cocktail:

2 tbsp roasted pineapple, chopped in 1/2-inch pieces

3–4 mint leaves

2 oz vodka

1 oz pineapple juice

Juice of 1 lime

2–3 oz ginger beer

Garnish: Mint sprig, lime wedges, roasted pineapple wedges

To Roast the Pineapple:

Preheat oven to 450° F. Peel, core, quarter and slice pineapple into ½-inch wedges. Place the pineapple on a baking sheet and sprinkle with the brown sugar. Roast for 10 minutes. Remove pineapple from oven, turn the pieces over, and sprinkle with more brown sugar. Roast for another 10 minutes. Remove from the baking sheet to either waxed paper or parchment, and let cool completely. Dice half of the pineapple and leave the other half for a garnish (minus the pieces I just know you will eat!)

To Make the Cocktail:

Combine the diced roasted pineapple and mint leaves in the bottom of a cocktail shaker and muddle. Add the vodka, pineapple juice and juice of one lime and stir. Fill the shaker with ice and shake until cold. Fill two glasses with ice, and pour the mixture over the ice. Top with the ginger beer, stir gently, and garnish with a sprig of mint, slice of lime and a wedge of roasted pineapple.

Lauryn Hill Comes to The Fillmore

fillmoremiamibeach.jpg

The 1990s were a fantastic time for music, with several major groups emerging and becoming critical darlings. Some of these groups included hip-hop groups like Arrested Development, The Roots, A Tribe Called Quest, and more. The Fugees were another successful group, scoring several hits like “Fu-Gee-La”, “Ready or Not”, and perhaps most notably, “Killing Me Softly”, a cover of the 1971 classic by singer Roberta Flack. Each of these songs came from their second and final studio album The Score.

After the Fugees disbanded, all three members of the group went on to establish their own solo careers, but it was Lauryn Hill who arguably achieved the greatest success. Her debut album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill became a massive critical and commercial success, winning several Grammy Awards and selling over 18 million copies worldwide.

Lauryn Hill has yet to release a proper follow up to her highly successful debut album, but she has remained relatively active in terms of festival appearances. If you’ve yet to see her in concert, she will be headlining MLH Caravan: A Diaspora Calling! Concert Series. The concert will be coming to The Fillmore on December 9th and will include performances by Hill as well as other artists from the African diaspora.

Ocean Drive Improvements Are on the Way

oceanDrive.jpg

A new and improved Ocean Drive will eventually welcome tourists and provide better conditions for Miami Beach residents. Miami Beach City Commissioners recently gave the okay on a proposal intended to improve the thoroughfare and address many of the common complaints, including reducing noise pollution and improving lighting conditions.

One of the several major points being addressed in the proposal includes making Ocean Drive significantly easier to navigate for pedestrians and drivers alike. If you’ve ever spent some time driving through it on a busy night, you know that traffic can quickly build up with vehicles and pedestrians attempting to cross over between the various restaurants and the beach boardwalk.

To address crime, there will be a greater police presence while those that prefer unique restaurants versus chain restaurants will find there will be less of them. There were also plans to implement a drink curfew that would kick in at 2 am, but it was unsuccessful. This means that Ocean Drive visitors will still be able to drink until five o'clock in the morning as they are currently able to.

Are you excited about all of the new upcoming Ocean Drive improvements?
