Start Preparing for the 2017 South Beach Wine & Food Festival

soBeFoodFest.jpg

With less than five months left before we bid 2016 adieu, Miami Beach is already setting its sights to the future and making preparations for next year’s South Beach Wine & Food Festival. The event is expected to return in 2017 for another fantastic weekend of celebrity cameos, parties, and of course great food.

While the 2017 version of the South Beach Wine & Food Festival will feature notable names in food like Rachael Ray and Robert Irvine, the festival will be switching things up and placing a greater emphasis on names that may be more familiar for their restaurants than for being television staples. Michael Solomonov won the James Beard Award in 2011 and will be opening a Federal Donuts in the Wynwood area. He will also be hosting a dinner on Friday, February 24th.

South Beach Wine & Food Festival traditions like Burger Bash and the Grand Tasting Village will still be taking place but there are new events in store like a dessert event by local favorite the Salty Donut, a noodle party by Dale Talde of Talde Miami Beach, and many more new events to keep things fresh and interesting.

Tickets for the South Beach Wine & Food Festival won’t be available until next year but you can visit sobefest.com to start determining your itinerary.

Miami’s Best Labor Day Pool Parties

poolParty-2.jpg

We only have to make it through one more week before we get to celebrate and enjoy the extended Labor Day weekend. Labor Day marks the official arrival of fall and the end of summer, bringing in temperatures that will hopefully be cooler, even if Miami’s weather is well-known for remaining in the 80s and 90s throughout the year. If you’re looking for a pool party to enjoy these last few days of summer, we have a suggestion or two.

The Delano Beach Club hosts a weekly Sunday pool party called Privileged Sundays, except this week the hotel is changing things up and adding a Labor Day twist. Boasting a red, white, and blue theme, music will be provided by Nate Ryan and Dave Sol. The party begins at 2 pm and admission is free.

Over in Miami, the appropriately named One Epic Pool Party is kicking off on Monday at 12 pm at the Epic Hotel. This Labor Day edition of the hotel’s monthly pool party will feature music by DJs Caked Up and Robbie Rivera, and it only costs $35 to enjoy the festivities that will continue until 8 pm.

Olympics, Music, and More This Week

Happy Monday! Let’s see what free events are happening this week in Miami and beyond, beginning with tomorrow’s free film at Miami Jazz Society. After the workday, relax with a complimentary movie beginning at 6:15 pm. If the movie doesn’t sound too appealing and you’re looking for something that involves a little more activity, you can always participate in some yoga at Bayfront Park over near the Southeast Financial Center.

The Olympics are still in full swing and the Delano in Miami Beach will be hosting an Olympic-themed night swim beginning at 8 pm on Wednesday. The infinity-edge pool will be appropriately decorated in Olympics décor and there will also be interactive games available to participate in.

On Thursday you can listen to some great music while on the Miami Metromover, which turns into the Miami Soul Train courtesy of Miami-Dade Transit. In the evening, head over to the Shore Club and listen to some deep house and tropical music by DJs during the Noctiluca Dusk Pool Party.

Art fans may want to head over to the Wolfsonian on Friday to enjoy the Free Friday Evening Guided Tours and learn a little more about the museum’s unique collections.

The ‘90s Comes to Miami This Week

Happy Humpday! What are your plans for this week? As always, we’re spotlighting some of the best places to get away and do something or participate in an event this week, beginning with a throwback to the ‘90s.

Nirvana was one of the most popular and influential bands to emerge in the 90s and its frontman Kurt Cobain continues to be a fascinatingly tragic figure more than two decades after he took his own life. You’ll be able to learn a little more about the enigmatic musician by watching the film Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck tomorrow, August 11 at Canvas in Miami. The film provides insight into Cobain’s life through accounts told by the people closest to him. Admission is free and the film begins at 7 pm.

In keeping with the ‘90s theme, Churchill’s Pub is hosting its '90s Flashback Fest and '90s Costume Contest where patrons are encouraged to don their best 90s-inspired outfit in a competition to win $100. The competition is open to anyone eighteen or over and it’s all going down this Friday from 8 pm to 3 am. There is a cover charge of $10.

The Best Cocktail Bar Is in Miami Beach

At 710 Liquors, we’ve got a great collection of drinks to choose from including wine, beer, and more. Of course we also know that sometimes you’d rather enjoy a drink out on the town instead of spending it at home. After all, a great night out with friends and cocktails makes for a memorable experience. Thankfully, Miami Beach has got one of the best bars in the country according to the Spirited Awards.

Sweet Liberty found on 20th Street received the Best New American Cocktail Bar award from the Spirited Awards. These awards have been running for ten years and are awarded by Taste of the Cocktail which has assembled a team of more than 100 judges to determine the best bars and bartenders around the country.

John Lermayer is the man behind Sweet Liberty and coincidentally he was also named among the American Bartender of the Year group of finalists. Lermayer has stated that he wants his customers to feel at home in the bar.

Sweet Liberty features a number of curiously named cocktails like the She Said Yes, the Velvet Sideswipe, and The Beast of Bourbon among many others. The bar also sells food.

Free Miami Events to Enjoy This Week

It may be the middle of the week, but there are still plenty of events happening tonight right here and throughout these last few remaining days of July in Miami Beach and beyond. Best of all, none of these events require paying an admission fee to attend. Let’s see what’s going on.

The health benefits of yoga have been widely recognized, and if you’re in the mood to stretch those muscles and feel more relaxed before heading to bed tonight, visit the Bass Museum and participate in some Green Monkey Yoga at Collins Park this evening at 6pm.  All you’ll need is a yoga mat to attend the free session.

Want to hear some great music performed by local acts you may not have heard of? Check out the Tropical BBQ at the Filling Station Lofts in Downtown where longtime Miami favorite Magic City Hippies will be performing alongside opening act Sigh Kicks on Thursday.

Those of you that like to bike ride might want to head over to the Government Center to participate in Critical Mass. Usually held every last Friday of the month, you’ll be able to potentially meet some fellow bike riding buddies.

If you’d rather just stay home this week and take it easy, don’t forget to drop by our liquor store and pick up some wine to enjoy, you deserve it.
